  • 21.07.05 The Environment Court has rejected Blue Mountain Lumber's plans to build a $30 million sawmill near Whangapoua, Coromandel.
    Paul Bibby, of the Whangapoua Environmental Protection Society, said the community had fought against the sawmill proposals for three years. "We're more than delighted," he said.
    Paul Bibby said the application had been declined on the basis of the discharges to land and streams.

  • Public Meeting - Wilsons Bay Marine Farming Consortium (Group A). Thames Sailing Club, Tararu, Thames. Thursday, 12th May, 7.30pm
    The Consortium and NIWA will present, in accordance with provisions of its resource consents, results from an ongoing environmental monitoring programme which commenced in 2001.
    This has implications for the proposed Western Firth of Thames AMA.

  • 29th January 10am - 3pm, Waiomu Domain.  The Waiomu Summer fair at the Waiomu Domain is organised annually in January by TCPS. A key feature is the GIANT 2nd-hand goods Auction which has been a feature for over 12 years. Proceeds from this support the work of the society. The auction is an excellent way for coasters and holiday-makers to to recyle all manner of goods and give them a new life.
    Plus much, much more - book stall, white elephant, plants, stalls, crafts, bargains, food, music.

  • William Hall Reserve Clean up 9 a.m. Sat 13th NovThames Forest and Bird needs helpers for this. A team of 20 students from the Wintec School of Arboriculture in Hamilton has recently spent three days in Thames to give the town's William Hall Memorial Reserve its first makeover since this notable arboretum was planted, in the 1870's. They have taken out many upper limbs and branches and performed other remedial pruning. The material taken out is now lying on the ground and needs to be tidied up.
